"Exoplanets are planets that are orbiting outside of our solar system", explained Junellie Gonzalez-Quiles, a research assistant with NASA.
As the researchers' conclude in their report ' The Habitability of GJ 357 d Possible Climates and Observability ,' "The sample reflection, emission and transmission spectra show features of a wide range of chemicals, H2O, CO2, CH4, and O3and O2for Earth-like atmospheres from the Visible to Infrared wavelength (0.4 to 20 μm), which would indicate habitability for observations with upcoming telescopes". That's still plenty hot, but also allows for a sizable habitable zone.
"She gets about the same amount of stellar energy from its star as Mars is from the Sun", said the authors of a new study.
These planets are approximately 31 light-years away from Earth.
Earlier it was reported that planet-"snowballs" were found suitable for the development of life.
Officer Uses Stun Gun on 65-Year-Old Guthrie Woman
When he asked her to sign a ticket saying she owed $80 for driving with the defective equipment, she refused. The officer then told her not to drive away. "So you don't even give a warning for this?" she says.
Texas police report active shooter situation
The governor of Texas has confirmed 20 people have been killed in a shooting at a Walmart store in El Paso . But once he left the store, he heard gunfire. "Ambulance! Help!" people cried as they rushed to the victims.
Several killed in Texas mall shooting
El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen confirms the shooter left a manifesto behind, which KTSM has received, but is working to validate. We have deployed troopers, special agents, Texas Rangers, tactical teams, and aircraft to the scene in a support role.
GJ 357 d is around 22 percent larger than Earth, NASA estimates. "If the planet has a dense atmosphere, which will take future studies to determine, it could trap enough heat to warm the planet and allow liquid water on its surface", said Diana Kossakowski of the Max Planck Institute of Astronomy, co-author of a paper describing the new planets. "Just knowing that liquid water can exist on the surface of this planet motivates scientists to find ways of detecting signs of life".
NASA's TESS is used to discover exoplanets beyond our solar system.
Given its orbit around its star only takes 55.7 Earth days, life on the planet would be quite different from our 365 days long years.
Follow-up observations from the ground led to the discovery of two more exoplanetary siblings: GJ 357 c and GJ 357 d.
Granted, at these temperatures the planet can not sustain life, which is one of the main purposes for TESS' explorations, but, it remains significant because it is the third-nearest transiting exoplanet recorded to date.
The newly-discovered exoplanet is substantially bigger than our home planet and, as Kaltenegger believes, it offers scientists an opportunity to observe and analyze the circumstances surrounding Earth's heavyweight planetary cousins.
Astronomers from the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands and the University of La Laguna, both in Spain, said that this planet is located in the Gj 357 system to the journal of Astronomy & Astrophysics.
