Bollywood films like "Uri: The Surgical Strike", "Andhadhun", "Badhaai Ho" and "Padman" won big at the 66th National Film Awards, which were announced on Friday. Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal bagged the Best Actor Award for AndhaDhun and Uri respectively. This year, Uri director Adhitya Dhar was bestowed with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for Best Director, Ayushmann Khurrana shared the Best Actor Award with Vicky Kaushal for Uri.
The National Award winners this year also include Telugu film "Mahanati", Kannada film "Nathicharami" and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's controversial "Padmaavat".
Head of the jury, Rahul Rawail, announced the awards today for 31 categories.
The best film on social issues went to Akshay Kumar-starrer Padman inspired by the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist from Tamil Nadu who introduced low-priced sanitary napkins. I'm glad that a subject like Badhaai Ho also won big today and I congratulate my director Amit Sharma for his breakthrough script that became a talking point in every household. Actor Surekha Sikri also won the award for best supporting actor (female) for her role in the 2018 blockbuster film. Arijit Singh has been awarded the best male playback singer.
