Google explained in its blog that Android's dessert names were not being properly understood by the global community.
Breaking its 10-year history of treat-themed nomenclature, which has seen the release of such (iced) gems as Android 1.6 Cupcake, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and Android 8.0 Oreo, Google announced on Thursday that Android Q will arrive, underwhelmingly, as Android 10.
Google also stated that users who aren't familiar with the naming convention - which is probably the majority of Android users - were finding it hard to understand whether their phone is running the latest version. The company has also received negative feedback relating to Android 9 Pie because Pies aren't considered desserts in many markets. It is speculated that the Android 10 could be released to the public by next few weeks, probably towards the end of this month.
