As with all meteor showers, it's smart to carve out a chunk of time to kick back and watch the night sky. The Perseid meteor shower happens annually but is known for being reliable and having plenty of shooting stars so you are more likely to see a bright flash or some that even look like fireworks.
For prime meteor viewing, NASA suggests watching the skies early Monday and Tuesday morning. This shower occurs as debris of a comet through which the Earth travels once a year. Depending on where you are, the moon may set before those early hours, which means it'll be darker and easier to spot any meteors. Unfortunately, on the peak mornings in 2019, a bright moon will drown many Perseids from view.
The Rifle River Recreation Area is once again hosting Meteors and S'mores August 9, giving people the chance to watch the Perseid meteor shower while enjoying a campfire and s'mores. Visible from July 23 through August 20, with peak activity occurring around the night of August 12-13, these shooting or falling "stars" are meteors visibly streaking in the Earth's atmosphere.
The best viewing will be overnight Sunday into Monday and then again Monday into Tuesday, the space agency says.
The Delta Aquariids are often overshadowed by the Perseids, a much more reliable meteor shower that's active around the same time of year.

The meteor shower typically produces up to 80 meteors an hour but with a bright Moon, the numbers can drop drastically. Comet Swift-Tuttle has left a cloud of debris that follows it around the sun.
Where do the Perseids come from? . If they get close enough to be attracted by Earth's gravity, they enter the upper atmosphere at high speeds, where they vaporize due to friction with air molecules.
Good luck and clear skies! The Perseid meteor shower is attributed to the particulates shed by periodic Comet 109P/Swift-Turtle.
