It carried the Soyuz MS-13 spacecraft with Expedition 60 crew members Andrew Morgan of NASA, Luca Parmitano of the ESA, and Alexander Skvortsov of Roscosmos aboard. The trio joined three others, Russian Alexei Ovchinin as well as Americans Christina Koch and Nick Hague, who have been aboard the ISS since March.
A veteran of two ISS missions, Skvortsov will be the flight commander for the six-hour journey from Baikonur to the ISS.
Exactly fifty years after Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the moon, a new team of astronauts arrived at the International Space Station (ISS) to begin their stay there.
They launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 12:28 p.m. ET.
Selected by NASA in 2013, Morgan is making his first trip to space.

"The Expedition 60 crew will continue work on hundreds of experiments in biology, biotechnology, physical science and Earth science aboard humanity's only permanently occupied microgravity laboratory", according to NASA.
NASA no longer operates manned flights to the ISS leaving it wholly dependent on Roscosmos' Soyuz program. Ovchinin and Hague will complete their mission in October and return to Earth, with the four remaining astronauts on board to be transferred to ISS Expedition 61.
Skvortsov, Morgan and Parmitano all come from military backgrounds and posed together in uniform in the build up to the launch.
The project - named Artemis - would be the first attempt to send humans to the lunar surface since the last Apollo landing in 1972.
Morgan's spacecraft is expected to dock with the space station on Saturday evening. The International Docking Adapter-3 (IDA-3), as it's known, will be launched in a few days' time as part of SpaceX Dragon's 18th commercial resupply services mission on July 24.
