A Newmarket man has been arrested in connection with a brazen sexual assault of a teenage girl at gunpoint in Aurora late last month, York Regional Police Const. Laura Nicolle said.
The girl was sexually assaulted and assaulted while walking along a pathway in a wooded area near John West Way and Wellington Road just before noon on June 24, police said.
Investigators said the alleged victim was walking on the trails when she was approached by a man, who reportedly struck her with an unknown object. She was taken to hospital with minor physical injuries.
Police said the suspect used the handgun to assault the teen, but the weapon wasn't fired.

Police also said they've arrested a second person, a 32-year-old Newmarket man, and charged him with accessory after the fact. Investigators say they are still looking to speak with a jogger who was on the trails at the time and may have witnessed the incident, as well as a young woman with blonde hair who was approached by the suspect after getting off Transit bus #1088 on the date of the incident.
