The company is rolling out a new feature that uses AI to identify negative comments before they are published and asks "are you sure you want to post this?" before it is shared on another person's post.
It's noteworthy that while this isn't the first instance of Instagram turning towards AI to police its platform - the company already uses AI to detect harmful content in photos, videos, and even comments - it is the first time Instagram is using AI to prevent hateful content from appearing on the app in the first place.
Alongside the user-nudging feature, the company also announced the launch of a new feature called Restrict, which enables users to hide posts by certain users from themselves and crucially from other people. Once a person has been restricted, their comments on your posts will only be visible only to them, unless you decide to approve the comment and make it visible publicly.
Instagram says early tests of this feature have shown that it encourages some people to reflect on their comment and undo it to send something nicer.
In other words, Instagram's big idea to tackle online bullying is to urge users to self-censor.Читайте также: Paul Pogba's Reason For Wanting To Quit Manchester United Revealed?
The other feature, which is yet to be rolled out, is geared toward empowering Instagram users to "stand up to this kind of behavior". The second new feature will offer Instagram users a new way to protect their account from unwanted interactions. If you choose to delete a comment, the bully won't have any indication that anything has changed, and also won't be able to see when you're online or you've read their direct messages. That's why Instagram has been working on two new features to help combat this epidemic.
But why wouldn't you just block a bully? As it turns out, it's not always that simple.
The company said young people are often "reluctant to block, unfollow, or report" bullies for fear of escalating the incident. In addition, some of these actions "make it hard for a target to keep track of their bully's behavior".
In response to the public's growing concern over cyber bullying and hate speech, social media giant Instagram has finally announced plans for more stringent protections of its users.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
