The spacecraft is carrying an orbiter, a lander and a rover that will move around on the lunar surface for 14 earth days. If that landing is successful, India will become only the fourth nation to ever land an intact vehicle on the moon.
The live streaming of Chandrayaan 2 will take place on Doordarshan.
The mission also highlights Prime Minister Narendra Modi's renewed focus on space exploration since he came to power more than five years ago.

India has had a space program for decades, and has for years carried out low-priced satellite launches for foreign commercial and government players as well as national programs including missions to the Moon and Mars.
After last week's technical glitch, India successfully launched its ambitious lunar mission Chandrayaan-2 Monday.
The next month and a half will see the spacecraft perform crucial maneuvers to ensure a smooth landing, ISRO Chairman K. Sivan said, as the agency's officials congratulated each other with handshakes and bear hugs after the launch. That discovery helped kick off something of a global race back to the Moon, in which India, China, and the United States have all developed and begun to fly missions to assess the amount and availability of this water for a variety of purposes, including the production of rocket fuel by breaking the water into hydrogen and oxygen.
India's space agency says it has launched an unmanned spacecraft to the far side of the moon a week after aborting the mission due to a technical problem. It is a proud day for all of us Indians as ISRO's Chandrayaan-2 took flight today. "Join us for the launch on Monday 22 July, 2019 at 2:43 PM IST", ISRO had tweeted on July 18 while announcing the rescheduled launch. All of the technology has been developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation.
