"The BethesdaNet login requirement was included for the Slayers Club, to reward members for playing the classic DOOM games", Bethesda told IGN in a statement. That's at least according to PEGI, which has posted a rating for the Nintendo 64 title for PC and PS4. DOOM helped to popularize the FPS genre way back when leading the way for games like Battlefield and Call of Duty. Bethesda is working to update the games to make the login optional, as it said it originally intended.
