Supermassive has repeatedly pointed out that it sees each Dark Pictures game being just that: a game sold as an individual product, unlike the likes of Telltale episodic games which have multiple entries loaded from a single shell program.
Players can also play solo mode on their lonesome, of course.
In an interview with IGN, Supermassive Games CEO Pete Samuels explained that Man of Medan will be part of an 8 game series. It's a great premise, allowing both players to explore a spooky ghost ship separately, making their own choices. These two multiplayer modes are Shared Story mode and Movie Night mode. You can make your own character's decisions and choose to save yourself or save others. Each player must be assigned to a specific character, so everyone will have an impact on the story. My favorite game is The Last of Us. In this mode, up to four other friends can join you in a world where your actions affect each other. Each of these titles will have similar gameplay to Until Dawn and while they each will tell stand-alone stories every character you control will have the chance to live or die based on your decisions. In short we have built The Dark Pictures Anthology from the ground up with multiplayer in mind'. "It seemed like the ideal setting for a group of friends to be isolated and unable to easily escape the terror".
