In contrast, Spotify now dominates the market in overall subscribers but their growth rate sits far behind at 25 percent. In April this year, Amazon had more than 32m subscribers for its music streaming services, which includes both Prime Music and Amazon Music Unlimited.
Along those lines, Amazon's current subscriber base for its music service reportedly stands at 32 million, which is dwarfed by Apple Music's roughly 60 million and Spotify's more than 100 million.
Amazon Unlimited Music is still smaller than its biggest competitors. Google has offered a variety of streaming services via YouTube that it has shuttered, rebranded, and shuffled around, making it hard to quantify the company's traction with music listeners.
Midia Research credits the rapid growth of Amazon Unlimited Music to the proliferation of Amazon Echo smart speakers and other devices with Alexa.Читайте также: Antoine Griezmann: FC Barcelona sign French striker for €120 million
Streaming has brought a new lease of life to the music industry. Prime members only have to drop $8 a month while Echo device users only have to pay $4.
"We're not battling for the same customers as everyone else", Amazon's Steve Boom confirmed. Amazon has a long history of selling CDs, but the company was late to the streaming sphere, launching Amazon Music in autumn 2016 - eight years after Spotify premiered.
While it may seem confusing how Amazon's streaming service is taking off like it is, it's not that surprising. Integration with Amazon's Alexa speakers has also been a big boon for the service. While only five percent of Spotify's subscribers are 55 years or older, Amazon Music has 14 percent of their users in this age bracket.
Instead of targeting younger demographics who have already become loyal to either Spotify or Apple Music, they're headed for an older market.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
