In a significant development, the Mumbai Police have filed a closure report in the alleged #MeToo sexual harassment case lodged by actress Tanushree Dutta against actor Nana Patekar, a top official said here on Thursday.
In a statement to the media, Nitin added, "If police files any B or C classification of summary report, that can not be final".
Tanushree Dutta, whose lawyer has said they will approach the Bombay High Court, said in her statement that she was exhausted of fighting but that the alleged failure of justice in her case should not discourage other survivors of harassment and assault from speaking up.
Satpute said he had not received any information from Oshiwara police about their report and added "any B or C Summary report can not be final". A "B summary" report is filed when police cannot find evidence in support of the complaint and are unable to continue the investigation.
The suburban Oshiwara police on Wednesday filed a "B Summary" report before a metropolitan magistrate in Andheri, Deputy Commissioner of Police Paramjit Singh Dahiya told PTI.
While Mr. Patekar's advocate Aniket Nikam welcomed the move, Ms. Dutta's lawyer Nitin Satpute claimed the police did not conduct a proper probe.
