What happened to Muhlaysia Booker?
During the course of investigating these two cases, detectives recognized that Arrestee Lyles drove the same type vehicle that is believed to have picked up Muhlaysia Booker on May 18, 2019.
Investigators were looking into whether an unsolved murder of another transgender woman, Brittany White, as well as a stabbing of a fourth transgender woman, were connected to Lyles.
Max Geron said police began investigating Lyles after an anonymous tipster told Dallas cops that Lyles shot and killed a woman in Far North Dallas on May 22.

The break in Booker's case comes as police continue to investigate killings involving at least two other transgender victims in the city.
Cell phone records indicate that Lyles was in the same area as Booker the night she went missing, police said. Her death was ruled unexplained by the Dallas County medical examiner.
Major Geron said Lyles was a "person of interest" in the killing Chynal Lindesy. During the course of the investigation, Homicide detectives were given additional information from a witness who had contact with the Lyles and provided details known only to the suspect.
Kendrell Lavar Lyles, 34, was arrested earlier this month in connection to the killing of Muhlaysia Booker in May. Someone offered Edward Thomas, 29, $200 to beat Booker, according to an affidavit.
A video of the incident showed a man putting on gloves and punching her repeatedly, giving her a concussion and a broken wrist. Police said at the time there was no apparent connection between the April attack and Booker's shooting in May. Brittany White, 29, was fatally shot inside her vehicle in southeast Dallas in October 2018 and another transgender woman was almost stabbed to death in April. The Human Rights Campaign notes the vast majority of the reported 128 transgender people killed between 2013 and 2018 were women of color.
