The implication behind Chinese analysts' predictions for the Xi-Kim meeting in North Korea is that China could be preparing some sort of grand bargain to offer President Trump, breaking up the impasse in nuclear negotiations with Pyongyang in exchange for trade concessions to Beijing.
But their ties have marked a turnaround since previous year, as Kim launched a peace offensive to the outside world.
China believes that with joint efforts on both sides, Xi's visit will be a success that will open a new chapter of the relations between the two parties and the two countries and make new contribution to regional peace, stability and prosperity, Song said.
Answering a spate of questions over Xi's visit to North Korea, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang denied that the trip was aimed at using Beijing-Pyongyang close ties as leverage in China-US trade talks.
At the same time, China has expressed wariness about North Korea's possession of nuclear weapons and has voted alongside the U.S.in enforcing global sanctions against the secretive, militarized state.
"He wants to show the U.S. that China is behind his country and if the United States tried to use the military option then the Chinese would come to his assistance".Читайте также: Pebble Beach doors open again to duffers after U.S. Open
In the meantime, Wilbur Ross, the US Commerce Secretary, said that the most likely outcome of the Trump-Xi summit, if it takes place, would be an agreement to actively resume talks, which is somehow in line with market expectations.
The summit failed to yield any results to end the deadlock over denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.
The White House also expressed hopes of making progress in denuclearization after China's announcement, saying the world is focused on Kim's commitment.
If Trump and Xi do meet, it would be just over a week after Xi's conversations with Kim - and whatever is announced in Pyongyang would certainly color the U.S.
Kim and Trump held a summit last year in Singapore and one in Hanoi this year, but hopes for rapid progress towards denuclearisation have faded. Kim will be looking for China's help to pressure the United States into easing that stance.
"Without China's assistance, the stalled North Korea nuclear negotiations will not go anywhere".
North Korea and U.S-supported South Korea have been locked in an armed standoff since their 1950-53 war ended in a truce, not a peace treaty.
"It's possible that Xi will carry some message from Kim to Trump, with Kim asking Trump to be realistic and seriously address North Korea's concerns", said Bucknell's Zhu.
Talks between the USA and North Korea collapsed during a February summit where Trump rejected Kim's push for major sanctions relief in return for partial denuclearization steps.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
