"Michael Flynn was under FBI investigation earlier than previously thought, according to a little-noticed section in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report - and the former national security adviser's brother told Fox News exclusively this week that the revelation suggested a long-running, high-level effort to "trip him up" and "trap" him", reports Fox News.
For his part, the judge in the case ordered that portions of Mueller's report that relate to Flynn be unredacted and made public by the end of the month. It could set up a conflict with Attorney General William Barr, whose team spent weeks blacking out from the report grand jury information, details of ongoing investigations and other sensitive information.
Flynn "informed the government of multiple instances, both before and after his guilty plea, where either he or his attorneys received communications from persons connected to the Administration or Congress that could have affected both his willingness to cooperate and the completeness of that cooperation", Mueller wrote in a memo originally submitted under seal ahead of Flynn's planned sentencing on December 18, 2018.
Mueller's office was unaware of a number of the contacts, some of which happened before Flynn's guilty plea.
Flynn also assisted the Eastern District of Virginia and prosecutors from the Justice Department's National Security Division with a now-open case against his former lobbying partner, who allegedly worked illegally for Turkey.Читайте также: Look out Pokémon Go: Microsoft unveils new Minecraft Earth augmented reality game
The new information includes details of instances where the president, and those with ties to the administration, could have potentially obstructed justice and attempted to prevent Flynn from cooperating with Mueller.
Prosecutors revealed details about Flynn's communications in a court filing aimed at showing the extent of his cooperation with Mueller's investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.
Mueller did say Trump's personal lawyer called Flynn's attorney in November 2017 to address Flynn's decision to cooperate with the investigation.
Flynn pleaded guilty in December 2017 to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the first days of the Trump White House about his interactions with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and about his lobbying for Turkey.
He also directed them to file publicly the transcripts of any calls with Russian officials such as the ambassador, Sergey Kislyak. Flynn was scheduled for sentencing in December 2018, but the judge suspended the date until his cooperation with prosecutors had ended.
The report found no evidence that Trump, or any of his administration, campaign or associates, had conspired with the Kremlin to influence the 2016 presidential election. "For example, the defendant recalled conversations with senior campaign officials after the release of the Podesta emails, during which the prospect of reaching out to WikiLeaks was discussed", according to the newly unredacted documents.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
