Asad Qizilbash is head of the new studio, and chairman of SIE's Worldwide Studios Shawn Layden is overseeing the studio. It's reportedly already working on its first slate of projects on the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City, Calif.
"We've got 25 years of game development experience and that's created 25 years of great games, franchises and stories", Shaun told The Hollywood Reporter. According to Layden, "We feel that now is a good time to look at other media opportunities across streaming or film or television to give our worlds life in another spectrum".
We recently loved Detective Pikachu, because it avoided sticking too closely to the plot of the 40 hour long Pokémon RPGs, and it seems like Sony and PlayStation may be following a similar path in the near future.
Layden also stressed that the Sony Studios team-up would allow for a more relaxed schedule.

"We looked at what Marvel has done in taking the world of comic books and making it into the biggest thing in the film world", says Layden.
Sony's original game titles include a blend of genres, including adventure, sci-fi, action, mystery, and horror, giving the company room to play with a variety of potential content they can develop for the big and small screen. Layden and Qizilbash spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, explaining their plans and ambitions. "To be the first gaming entity to do something lasting and meaningful in a completely different medium is something I'd like to see us achieve here at PlayStation Productions". Instead, PlayStation Productions was eyeing Marvel's wildly successful approach and even talked to key industry figures like Kevin Feige to "get an understanding of the industry".
