According to report from Stadium college basketball insider Jeff Goodman, Juwan Howard has accepted an offer to become Michigan's head men's basketball coach on Wednesday afternoon. John Beilein, the program's all-time winningest coach, took the Cleveland Cavaliers head coaching job on May 13.
The hiring of Howard reunites a member of the famed "Fab Five", with the Maize and Blue. He was a candidate for head coaching openings with the Timberwolves, Lakers, and Cavaliers this offseason. "I have been very fortunate to be part of a great championship organization in the Miami Heat for the last nine years - three as a player and six as a coach".
Since retiring in 2013, Howard has been an assistant coach with the Heat under Erik Spoelstra.
The Chicago native went to the NCAA Championship game twice as a MI player. The two-time National Basketball Association champion with the Heat and one-time All-Star averaged 13.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists during his career that ended after the 2012-13 season. They knew Howard's longtime goal has been an National Basketball Association job, but understood that if MI ever called, he would have to take a long look at the opportunity. He is a terrific leader and mentor, which translates very well to the collegiate level. "He will forever be a champion and part of the Heat family and I am excited to see him take the next step".Читайте также: Zion Williamson's Stepfather Says Returning To Duke Hasn't Been Considered
"Talk to me nice. This will only be right", former Heat star Dwyane Wade wrote on Twitter.
Howard becomes the 17th coach in the program's 103-year history. He also will be the seventh coach in MI history to coach at his alma mater, and first since Bill Frieder in the 1980s.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
