Comedian Freddie Starr has died.
A source at Spain's equivalent of the emergency service number 999 has said: "We responded to a call this afternoon from the carer of a 76-year-old man in the Mijas area of the Costa del Sol".
Reports are coming in that Freddie Starr, the comedian and lead singer of Merseybeat pop group the Midniters, has been found dead at his Spanish home.
He became known for his unpredictable and eccentric comedy routines.

The comic and musician rose to fame during the 1970s after appearing on talent show Opportunity Knocks, and rose to stardom during the 1980s and 1990s, featuring in a range of his own television shows. "Freddie Starr was the greatest".
Starr's fellow comic Jim Davidson was also among those paying tribute.

However, in his autobiography Starr denied the incident had taken place.
