Despite mixed reviews for the show's eighth series, in which major storylines were wrapped up in a run of just six episodes interrupted by the occasional stray coffee cup, the programme has been a ratings success for USA pay-TV channel HBO and United Kingdom broadcaster Sky.
DID YOU WATCH the finale of Game of Thrones?
The Game of Thrones season eight audience has been the most engaged ever for Foxtel, with the show pulling in a cumulative linear average audience of 1.413 million viewers per episode across episodes 1-4.
The data suggests a total of about 1.5million viewers tuned in to watch the final dramatic twists of the hit fantasy TV show. The previous record was held for nearly 20 years by The Sopranos season 4 premiere on September 15, 2002, which saw 13.4 million people watching that episode at the same time.
But the show's last episode was a roaring commercial success for pay TV provider Foxtel as it brought in a record-breaking 1.076 million viewers, Mumbrella reported.Читайте также: First Republican lawmaker says Trump engaged in impeachable conduct
The Barry season finale also performed very well with 2.7 million viewers watching across all of HBO's platforms on Sunday night, and the initial telecast reached a series high of 2.2 million viewers, which quadrupled the first season finale's viewership of 548,000.
Over 1.2 million fans worldwide had signed a Change.org petition by Monday, criticizing Season 8 and calling for a remake. "So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it's not what they want to see is just disrespectful".
