Less than a month after Spotify filed a formal complaint against Apple for its app store practices, a European Commission probe is moving forward, potentially threatening one of the Cupertino giant's cash cows.

Funds connected to your Apple ID can be used to pay for iTunes movies, music, books, TV shows, Apple Music, iCloud, and a number of in-app subscriptions, so whether you want to spend money now or you're holding out for the launch of Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade and want to save yourself some money, now is the best time to do so.
This comes after Spotify in March filed an antitrust complaint alleging that Apple is giving itself an "unfair advantage" through its 30 per cent "Apple Tax", which sees the firm charging a 30 per cent fee toward any sales through its App Store, including subscription services. Spotify claimed that adding this to its costs pushes its price above that charged by Apple Music. According to Spotify, Apple is pulling its own music service on iPhones, iPads and iPods.

But it faces intensifying competition from the likes of Apple, Amazon and Google. The commission has decided there are grounds to investigate further, the FT reported (paywalled). The US Supreme Court is now continuing its deliberation on the Apple vs. Pepper case, where Apple is accused of pretty much the same antitrust issues over its monopolizing practices within its App Store.
