The growth in Spotify's user base comes as the music and podcast streaming service has undertaken an aggressive global expansion plan spanning the likes of the Middle East and North Africa, where the company has been offering cut-price subscription plans. The company has tallied up over 2m users in India since its launch there two months ago. In North America especially, Premium subscriber growth was driven by Spotify's continued partnerships with Samsung, Google, and Hulu. Last month Spotify filed a complaint against Apple with European regulators, alleging that the USA tech firm limits choice and competition in its app store, giving its own music streaming service an unfair advantage over rivals. Analysts on average were expecting the company to have 218.6 million subscribers, according to research firm FactSet.
