Vitisak speculated the dog might have fallen off a fishing trawler, and dubbed it "Boon Rod, ' or 'Survivor".
Rig worker Vitisak Payalaw, an offshore planner with Chevron, told CNN that fellow staff members spotted the dog swimming towards the platform on the afternoon of April 12, and held out a pole for him.
Had the winds and waves not been calm that day, the workers may not have seen the dog, Payalaw said.

The workers looked around for a way to help her up, and made a decision to use a rope to pull the dog to safety.
After some effort, the dog managed to make it to the platform where it clung to some support structures underneath the rig.
