The abrupt shutdown of Jet Airways operations has left Indian tourism industry a anxious lot as it has led to an average 25 percent spike in airfares across the sectors leading to massive hotel cancellations, says industry experts.
Budget carrier SpiceJet on Friday said has already hired over 500 employees of Jet Airways which has temporarily grounded all its operations after failing to secure emergency funding, PTI reported.
"We have already provided jobs to more than 100 pilots, more than 200 cabin crew and more than 200 technical and airport staff", said Ajay Singh, chairman and managing director of SpiceJet.
The total number of planes to be inducted in the immediate future now stands at 27.
SpiceJet, the Gurugram-based no-frills airline has already announced induction of 27 more planes -22 Boeing 737s and five turboprop Bombardier Q400s - in the fleet to help overcome to an extent the capacity deficit due to Jet Airways temporarily withdrawing its domestic and global services.
