And now Wing has announced its drone deliveries have moved from the testing phase in the Aussie outback, and into metropolitan areas, with around 100 homes in the suburbs of Crace, Palmerston, and Franklin initially having access to the service.
Google has launched a world-first commercial air delivery service - dubbed Project Wing - in partnership with parent company Alphabet.
Since then, Wing has delivered over 3,000 packages to homes in communities outside Canberra, Fernleigh Park, Royalla and Bonython.
And despite Wing's drone delivery service being approved by the Australian regulator, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), there are some restrictions. The service will gradually expand to further areas once it's up-and-running in the initial zones, Alphabet's drone spinoff Wing said. The drones are also allowed to operate "in closer proximity to a person, than our regulations would normally permit".
The new delivery service will start to be operational in a few weeks and will start operating in a few neighbourhoods in Canberra first before expanding to the entire city.
