If you have the latest software update installed on any of the phones mentioned above, you'll automatically see "Caller Verified" on your screen for authentic calls from the T-Mobile network and Comcast Xfinity Voice home phone service. This is a big step in the fight over call verification as robocallers continue to attack our phone lines with spam.
T-Mobile US and Comcast said they became the first to provide consumer protection from robocalls and spam across networks. They include the LG G8 ThinQ, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Note 9, Galaxy S8 and S8+, Galaxy S9 and S9+, Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and Galaxy S10e. The former of the two companies also revealed that its own internal anti-robocall feature, Caller Verified, works with no fewer than ten of the smartphones it offers. It uses Stir (Secure Telephony Identity Revisited) and Shaken (Secure Handling of Asserted information using toKENs) standards to identify authentic calls across both company's networks. Not only are these types of phone calls annoying, but they can be risky if you're not careful.
Eric Schaefer, GM of Broadband and Communications Services at Comcast Cable, said: "We will be exchanging authenticated calls with more providers across the industry as we come together to tackle this problem". This is when a scammer hijacks a phone number to match the area code and three-digit prefix of the person they're calling to make their call appear legitimate.
