(KSTP) A 5-year-old was hospitalized after an incident at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., April 12, 2019.
Police identified Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda as the man who was chased and arrested after Friday morning's incident at the megamall in suburban Minneapolis. "The child has been transported to the hospital and has been receiving care".
Aranda's criminal record includes two convictions in 2015 for obstruction of the legal process/interfering with a peace officer, as well as convictions for fifth-degree assault, trespassing and damage to property.
"The child did suffer significant injuries", he said.
The mother screamed uncontrollably and appeared to be in shock, Hailey said.
The suspect ran down to the first floor and "was located inside the mall", Potts said.
The 24-year-old is in police custody and being questioned, reports local TV station KTSP.

Potts said police are looking at security video from inside the mall to gather more information.
"The child did suffer significant injuries", said the police chief, according to CNN.
A suspect was arrested at the mall. Our immediate and only concern is for the well-being of the family and the child, as well as for any individuals who may have witnessed the incident.
Police detained the man suspected of deliberately causing the child to fall, and he remains in police custody.
Allina Health officials said an ambulance took the child to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis. Potts said he didn't know whether the victim's family is from Minnesota or visiting from elsewhere. He says police don't have an idea about possible motive.
Officers responded to the incident at 10:17 a.m. Friday. Initial accounts over emergency audio indicated that the child wasn't breathing.
