Pompeo did not address Trump's support of Israel's claim to sovereignty over the Golan in the CBN interview, but he noted that his Christian faith has significantly influenced his actions and remarks - from his service in the army, as a congressman, then as the director of the Central Intelligence Agency and now through his tenure as secretary of state.
Speaking to the Christian Broadcasting Network in Jerusalem on Thursday, Pompeo said Trump may be poised to defend against forces that want to "eradicate the Jewish people" in the Middle East.
While on his multi-country tour of the Middle East on Thursday, the USA secretary of state responded to a question from the Christian Broadcast Network's Chris Mitchell during a press conference in Jerusalem, who asked, "could it be that President Trump right now has been sort of raised for such a time as this, just like Queen Esther, to help save the Jewish people from the Iranian menace?".

Like other administrations, the Trump administration has also sought to curtail Iran's influence in the Middle East, particularly in Yemen and Syria, by targeting Tehran-backed groups like Hezbollah and the Houthi rebels.
Pompeo said in response that "As a Christian, I certainly believe that's possible".
Pompeo has recently come under scrutiny for allowing only "faith-based media" to attend a State Department press call on the subject of worldwide religious freedom.

In recent days, Mr Trump has accused his Democratic rivals of being "anti-Israel" and "anti-Jewish". On Thursday, he said the United States should recognize Israel's control of the disputed Golan Heights.
But in a tweet that appeared to catch many by surprise, Trump said the time had come for the United States to take the step, which Netanyahu warmly welcomed as a "miracle" on the Jewish holiday of Purim.
And last November, the US - for the first time - voted against an annual United Nations resolution condemning Israel's continued occupation of the Golan.
It comes as Trump tweeted that the time to recognise the Golan Heights - Syrian territories illegally occupied by Israel - as Israeli, leading to a backlash in the Middle East.
Pompeo's comments came during a visit to Israel in which he sought to bolster ties with the longtime US ally and mount more pressure on Iran. "It was special for me as a Christian". He then went on to describe his visit to the Western Wall earlier in the day, during which he toured the ancient Western Wall Tunnels.
While previous secretaries of state have traditionally met with the Palestinians when visiting the region, Pompeo has no such talks planned.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
