Spotify, the world's most popular paid music streaming service, launched in India on Tuesday, stepping into a price-sensitive market crowded by well-funded local players like JioSaavn and Apple Music.
The music streaming giant, who finally went public past year, has developed its service to be "finely tuned to music fans personal taste".

Revenues from streaming rose 30 percent over the year to reach $7.4 billion, with subscription on-demand streaming services accounting for over half of revenue.
What's actually kind of hilarious about this situation is that Spotify was originally launched as a way to combat music piracy, with the support of WMG, Universal Music, Sony, BMG, EMI, and several other record labels. Basically, because WMG owns so many songs, Spotify said they could not feasibly launch in India without an agreement with WMG.

However, the Indian launch has been far from smooth.
Spotify last week expanded Spotify into India, after expanding to MENA and Southeast Asia.

WMG filed an injunction against Spotify in a Mumbai court on February 25th, seeking to prevent Spotify from using any music from WMG's catalogue of artists.
With a population of around 1.3 billion people, the Indian streaming market has huge potential, as internet users continue to soar.
