According to a tweet from Chicago's CBS affiliate, Smollett will be allowed to travel to NY and Los Angeles without asking the court permission as he awaits trial.
Smollett was arrested on February 21 after being charged with felony disorderly conduct for allegedly filing a false police report in which he claimed he was the victim of a hate crime. The charges all are Class 4 felonies, the lowest category of felony offense under IL law.
One of Smollett's attorneys, Mark Geragos, responded to the indictment in a statement to ET. His attorneys have called the charges against him "prosecutorial overkill". The 36-year-old "Empire" actor was indicted last week for allegedly lying to Chicago police about a hate-crime attack and had been charged with disorderly conduct for filing a false police report. Judge Steven Watkins, who was assigned earlier Thursday as the trial judge, set Smollett's next court date for April 17.
Not much later, Chicago police revealed they had evidence pointing to the Hollywood star lying about the attack, accusing him of paying his "attackers", all so he could get more attention and score a bigger salary from Empire.

Well played Usman Khawaja: Major General Ghafoor trolls India after Australia thrashing
When he played, and even when he did not, MS Dhoni established how important he is, from behind the stumps and in front of it. They will rejoin their team-mates in mid-May, ahead of World Cup warmup matches against India and West Indies in the UK.
Smollett is now facing 16 felony counts.
"The fact of an indictment was not unexpected", the statement read.
The indictment says Smollett told police he was attacked around 2 a.m.by two men who used racial and homophobic slurs.
Smollett is accused of staging an attack on himself on January 29.
"Like any other citizen, Mr. Smollett enjoys the presumption of innocence, particularly when there has been an investigation like this one where information, both true and false, has been repeatedly leaked. (4) Transmits or causes to be transmitted in any manner to any peace officer, public officer or public employee a report to the effect that an offense will be committed, is being committed, or has been committed, knowing at the time of the transmission that there is no reasonable ground for believing that the offense will be committed, is being committed, or has been committed".
Smollett returned to the small screen Thursday night on Empire, but his future on the Fox show remains up in the air.
