That's not all. OpenSignal also noted that when the same 5G E phones are used on different networks, there's barely any difference in speed.
In fact, AT&T's "5G E" network performed slightly worse than its two main competitors' networks, but only by a small margin: it was only about 1 megabit-per-second slower than Verizon and T-Mobile's networks, which is negligible. Still, all four tests were carried out the same way, which, if AT&T's claims were true, would show an advantage in overall speeds when performing this test. AT&T's LTE-Advanced (a.k.a. 5G E) network is an improvement over its existing LTE network but that case is true across all four carriers.
In a statement provided to Engadget, AT&T contends that OpenSignal's study is inaccurate. Despite AT&T executives protesting that 5G Evolution was a perfectly sensible way to brand certain upgraded LTE networks - that feature things like 4×4 MIMO antennas, 256 QAM, and three-way carrier aggregation - their counterparts at rival carriers didn't miss the opportunity to criticize. Turns out, while LTE Advanced Pro - the name by which the "5G E" technologies are more commonly known by - can be fast, that's not necessarily on AT&T's network. "Of course, our analysis also shows that the same is true for the equivalent Verizon and T-Mobile customers even though they don't see a "5G E" label on their device".

Valspar Championship: Paul Casey, Dustin Johnson and Luke Donald in contention
Donald had a share of the lead until he bogeyed the par-3 eighth, his 17th hole of the day. "But it's a hole that fits me". He was runnerup in 2012. "I think mentally past year I was sort of hoping, obviously hoping, I would win, wanting to win".
Specifically, the report says that phones on AT&T's 5GE network are averaging download speeds of 28.8 Mbps. But AT&T has repeatedly boasted about the size of its 5G E/LTE-Advanced footprint, saying it covers more than 400 markets across the United States.
AT&T offered no further comment.
The latest test is on par with OpenSignal's previous endeavour, which produced similar results.
According to AT&T, OpenSignal's test methodology is "flawed", as "Speed-test data purporting to show the "real-world experience of 5G Evolution" without verifying the capable devices were tested in a 5G Evolution coverage area as shown by the indicator does not accurately represent the 5G Evolution user experience".
Verizon dismissed 5G E as a marketing term.
