"The science community nearly entirely supports vaccinations", said Ethan Lindenberger who was recently vaccinated. "My parents think vaccines are some kind of government scheme", the teen wrote on Reddit when he first made a decision to reach out for guidance.
On Monday, Lindenberger appeared on CNN's Anderson Cooper Full Circle and said that despite not getting vaccinated, he never contracted chickenpox or measles. That death brought up discussions about whether to do away with the "philosophical or personal beliefs" exemption to vaccinating a child before they're allowed to enter a public school, which inevitably led to a flame war between Jim Carrey and half of Twitter.
For most of his life, Lindenberger thought it was normal for most kids not to get immunized, but about two years ago he began to see how the posts about vaccines his own mother was sharing on social media were risky.
"I grew up not knowing that you go to the health department and get a shot in your shoulder in your upper arm for a bunch of really big diseases that could have a lot of really bad side effects and a lot of bad implications. "I sat down with them and I said, 'This is the evidence I have" and I presented it as best I could and they didn't agree and once I turned 18 I said 'Even though we disagree still, I'm going to pursue vaccinations".
Lindenberger showed his parents scientific studies that showed vaccines were safe and effective, but his mother remained unconvinced.
Ethan said, "I'm a very obedient child". "I was doing it for my safety and the safety of others". "My parents are very happy that I'm continuing to express that the importance of a vaccine is beyond just me and other people, and I'm glad to share that story". Now that he's 18, Lindenberger is making headlines for his decision to defy his mother and get vaccinated, reports USA Today.

Russian Federation plans to disconnect from global Internet for cyber-defense
But the cabinet and Vladimir Putin's internet adviser are in favour of the law. The president famously once called the internet a "CIA project".
Her son said it was never his intention to blame his parents or make them look dumb, saying, "That came from a place of frustration and trying to deal with this issue and find common ground". In 2001, only 0.3% of kids between 19 and 35 months had received no vaccine doses. "Generally, a minor may not consent to immunizations unless they are considered a 'mature minor, ' that is, legally emancipated from their parents", Winnike wrote.
Since fall 2018, at least 204 people have become ill with the highly contagious and potentially deadly disease, which a vaccine can prevent.
His mother has already indicated that she will not allow his 16-year old brother to be immunized, although he wants it, Lindenberger said.
To further limit the spread of the virus, health officials ask that people who think they might have measles call their doctor or health care provider before visiting a hospital or doctor's office.
'But the diseases we developed vaccines for - like polio, which killed or crippled thousands of children - were selected precisely because they're so severe'.
