The judge issued a gag order on Friday that prohibits lawyers involved in the case from speaking with the news media and prohibits other participants, such as Stone himself, from making statements that may affect the case when they are near the courthouse. Stone claimed he did not realize that the crosshairs were in the graphic.
Stone wrote in text message to a Washington Post reporter. He explained that it was not meant as a threat, and that "Any inference that this was meant to somehow threaten the Judge or disrespect court is categorically false".
"Through legal trickery, Deep State hitman Robert Mueller has guaranteed that my upcoming show trial is before Judge Amy Berman Jackson, an Obama appointed Judge who dismissed the Benghazi charges against Hillary Clinton and incarcerated Paul Manafort prior to his conviction for any crime", Stone captioned the since-deleted post, which also requested that people donate to his legal defense fund. "[It] is a random photo selected from the Internet and was posted at my direction. Because it is open to misinterpretation I'm going to take it down".
"What some say are crosshairs are in fact the logo of the organization that originally posted it - something called corruption central", Stone told The Post. And in the upper left hand corner it looks like the symbol for crosshairs. "My lawyers are fighting this effort to abridge my First Amendment Rights".

Stone was arrested last month as part of the Russian Federation investigation on charges of lying to investigators and witness tampering. At the end of his post, Stone urged his followers to "help me fight for my life" at a donation page set up in his name.

"I will of course continue to be judicious about my comments regarding the case", he added.
