The Razer Phone was a technical unicorn when it first launched: a mobile phone complete with 120Hz screen, top-of-the-line CPU, and a hefty battery for long gaming sessions. Fun fact: as of August 2018, there were just under 70,000 first-gen Razer Phones in the world - and nearly half of them were in the United Kingdom alone.
Back in November we reviewed the Razer Phone 2 and while it's a very good phone outright, its somewhat missed the mark in terms of pricing and filling a hole in the market. The company, it says, is in the process of realigning and strengthening its path to growth, which inevitably leads to shuttering projects and letting employees go. Furthermore, the tipster said plans for a third generation Razer Phone were canned. While some staff will remain to work on updates for the Razer Phone 2, its successor has been cancelled.

As a result, Razer shut down several projects and had to part ways with roughly 30 employees, or about two percent of its total workforce.
Razer confirmed the project and personnel cuts in a statement to Droidlife. Other employees of the affected projects will be moved to different parts of Razer to work on other key focus projects and initiatives which will continue to scale and hire. We see great opportunities in the mobile gaming space that we created with the Razer Phone and will continue to invest in this category through a combination of hardware and software initiatives. Even the more experienced and well-known phone makers such as HTC and LG have found it increasingly hard of late to replicate the success they experienced in previous years.
