A representative for Queen told Reuters on Wednesday the band "are opening the show", but had no further details. The move, which is not completely a surprise, comes in the wake of the blockbuster success of "Bohemian Rhapsody", the biopic about the band and its late singer, Freddie Mercury.
Announcing the exciting news, the Academy tweeted out the lyrics to Queen's classic, Bohemian Rhapsody, asking: 'Is this the real life? "We welcome @QueenWillRock and @adamlambert to this year's #Oscars!".
The Academy said on Monday that Queen, the band at the center of best picture nominee "Bohemian Rhapsody", is set to perform on the host-less telecast.
Speaking to People previous year, the singer revealed that he was "really nervous" when he was first asked to take on the frontman role once occupied by the late rock icon Freddie Mercury.

Rami Malek has been praised for his performance as the iconic frontman, Freddie Mercury.
Variety wrote in its review of the film, "Malek, the 37-year-old Egyptian-American actor from "Mr. Robot", takes on the role of Freddie Mercury as if born to it".
