A Googler commenting on a source code change for Android Q let it slip that the 2019 Pixel will have "dual SIM functionality", which hopefully means the true dual SIM capabilities users expect these days. Crucially, the commit says it can do this "even if [the device has] two or more SIM cards". That would require a third option, Dual SIM, Dual Active.
This is news and it's not; the Pixel 3 line is technically dual-SIM, but the functionality is disabled in most markets. The most common is Dual SIM Dual Standby, wherein both SIMs are registered on the network at once, and both can receive calls / SMS, but generally only if the other SIM isn't already being used for that objective. This means that both the eSIM and the SIM card slot can not be both active at the same time.
The upcoming Android Q will allow both the eSIM and Physical SIM to work together allowing Dual SIM, Dual Standby (DSDS) - both SIMs active can work simultaneously.

Steve Newman, the Senate's pro tem, serve as both a voting senator and temporary lieutenant governor. He made clear he is not immediately resigning and called for "space in this moment for due process".
Before then we might well get treated to the Pixel 3 Lite - Google is rumored to be readying a mid-range version of its 2018 flagship phone, built with slightly cheaper materials and a less powerful chipset on board. Like Apple's newest iPhone, those Pixel phones have a tray for one SIM card while the second is provided by an eSIM. Also available in the latest iPhones and many dual SIM Android smartphones, this basically means that the other SIM can receive calls or texts so long as the primary SIM slot isn't actively being used for the same objective.
Beyond that, there's no other word regarding other features. XDA is guessing that the Pixel 4 will support Dual SIM, Dual Standby (DSDS), which is certainly a logical conclusion.
The Pixel 3 could support DSDS in the future, but not DSDA because it lacks a secondary radio. Unfortunately, older Pixel models likely won't see this feature trickle down through software updates.
