"By joining the Amazon family, we're excited to learn from and work closely with a team that is defining the future of the home, accelerate our mission, and bring Eero's systems to more customers around the globe".

Amazon is set to acquire home mesh wi-fi networking startup eero in a move that could set the stage for the US$781 billion company to extend its reach deeper into the network world. Eero has raised $148 million in equity and debt, according to PitchBook Data Inc. Of course, acquiring Eero will enable gadgets compatible with Alexa to become easier to set up if Amazon decides to tweak the router technology. Eero once dreamed of being more than just a router maker, and saw its hardware as the gateway to a future operating system for the home.
Google, Samsung, Linksys, Netgear and some other electronics firms have followed Eero's lead and released their own mesh bundles, the tech news website noted. "We started with WiFi because it's the foundation of the modern home".
A statement from Eero's CEO and founder Nick Weaver suggests that the router manufacturer will maintain its brand at least in the near term. For an additional $149, customers can add a beacon for another room.
On a more ominous note, the headline over Therese Poletti's piece for MarketWatchr reads: "Opinion: Amazon wants to control your entire house after Eero acquisition".
Alexa, asked for her comment on the Eero deal this morning, was tight-lipped: "I don't have an opinion on that".
Poletti writes: "With this deal, Amazon could be in a position to completely analyze everything you do on the internet, and send you relevant ads to entice you to buy more things on Amazon".
