The officials said they found out about the apparent concealment when a White House adviser and a State Department official tried to get information from the interpreter beyond a separate readout provided by Tillerson.
According to the Post, on at least one occasion Trump confiscated notes from the interpreter present at meetings between the two leaders and instructed them not to discuss the details of the conversations with other administration officials.
That occurred after the President's 2017 meeting in Hamburg with Putin, which the Post noted was also attended by then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
The president's secrecy "is not only unusual by historical standards, it is outrageous", Strobe Talbott, former deputy secretary of state under Bill Clinton.
What did Mr Trump say about the Putin story?
The Post's report comes on the heels of another explosive report by the New York Times which claimed the FBI opened a probe into the possibility that Trump was secretly working for Russian Federation after FBI Director James Comey's firing.
Trump blasted the FBI on Twitter, insisting it acted "for no reason & with no proof" when it opened the investigation. "I am not keeping anything under wraps", Trump told Fox news in an interview following a report by the Washington Post that claimed he has concealed details of his face-to-face encounters with Putin from senior officials in administration.
Special counsel Robert Mueller is looking into whether the Trump campaign co-ordinated with Russian Federation and whether the president obstructed the investigation.
No evidence has publicly emerged that Trump was secretly in contact with or took direction from Russian officials, the Times said.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller III is now investigating whether Trump's campaign had ties to Russian Federation during the election, but there is no timetable when the final report will be released.
"The FBI was in complete turmoil (see N.Y. Post) because of Comey's poor leadership", he tweeted.
On Friday, the New York Times published a story about an FBI probe into Trump's behaviour following his firing of former FBI Director James Comey. "I think it's the most insulting thing I've ever been asked", he said, without directly answering the question.
Trump has repeatedly denied any collusion.
The White House did not immediately respond to INSIDER's request for comment. She also disputed that Trump had ever been soft on Russian Federation.

The inquiry forced counterintelligence investigators to evaluate whether Trump was a potential threat to national security.
