Many had expected the 21-year-old to eventually join Barça when the time was right, but De Telegraaf has now reported that a PSG delegation arrived in Amsterdam this week and informed Ajax of their willingness to make an enormous €75m bid.
Now it appears he is going to miss out on another target - De Telegraaf are reporting that De Jong has made a decision to sign for PSG, in a deal worth €75 million.
De Jong seems destined to become Ajax's most expensive sale ever - beating the £35m that Tottenham had to pay for Davinson Sanchez a year ago.
"It's hard to say what will happen", De Jong told the Guardian. There are five games to go until the winter break, I only want to think about the game against PEC this weekend and the next Champions League match against Bayern Munich. But no choice has been made yet, we can see it all.
"The rumours appeared again today and I'm sure it will stay like this for a while, but I think we're handling it well".
