Many had expected the 21-year-old to eventually join Barça when the time was right, but De Telegraaf has now reported that a PSG delegation arrived in Amsterdam this week and informed Ajax of their willingness to make an enormous €75m bid.
Now it appears he is going to miss out on another target - De Telegraaf are reporting that De Jong has made a decision to sign for PSG, in a deal worth €75 million.
De Jong seems destined to become Ajax's most expensive sale ever - beating the £35m that Tottenham had to pay for Davinson Sanchez a year ago.
"It's hard to say what will happen", De Jong told the Guardian. There are five games to go until the winter break, I only want to think about the game against PEC this weekend and the next Champions League match against Bayern Munich. But no choice has been made yet, we can see it all.
"The rumours appeared again today and I'm sure it will stay like this for a while, but I think we're handling it well".

That's extremely satisfying, as is Javi Sánchez's goal, which will surely be one for him to remember forever. Everything is debatable, what we have to do is give our best to be available and give our best when playing.
But for now it's all eyes on De Jong - who is expected to make his £67million move to one of Europe's giants in the summer. Have your say in the comment section below.
On the ongoing speculation, De Jong added: "I don't pay attention to it".
"I hear the stories but I just want to finish this season well".
De Telegraaf also says PSG's move came about after a direct request from Kylian Mbappe.
The 21-year-old is now one of the most highly rated young players in world football and he, along with teammate Matthijs De Ligt, has been linked heavily with possible moves to Barcelona and Manchester City.
