But right before the show started it was announced that Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa won the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.
Murray was the most exciting player in college football this season and his success has many thinking he could reverse course and choose the NFL over the Major League Baseball.
Earlier this week, Tagovailoa was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Year. He also ranks second in completion percentage (.709; first among Power Five players). Through 13 games, the sophomore has completed 67.7 percent of his passes for 3,353 yards and a school-record 37 touchdowns. The 5-foot-9 signal-caller led the Sooners to a College Football Playoff berth while throwing for 4,053 yards and 40 touchdowns and rushing for 892 yards with 11 scores.
Behind Murray, the University of Oklahoma has the top rated offense in the country, averaging over 8 yard per play.

Kyler Murray has put together one of the greatest individual seasons in college football history. He had his school- and Big 12-record streak of eight games with at least three TD passes snapped in a win against Oklahoma State on November 10. He is a finalist for the award with Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins and Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
On Friday, Murray will head to New York City for Heisman Trophy weekend. No school has ever produced back-to-back Heisman Trophy winners who were quarterbacks.
However, the Alabama quarterback received a couple of positive signs Thursday as he beat out fellow Heisman finalist Kyler Murray for both the Walter Camp and Maxwell awards given to college football's player of the year. The game will be televised by ESPN.
