Much has been said about Aniston and her rocky love life, but despite the rumours, the beauty has long assured fans that she is doing great and doesn't need a fairy tale ending.
"The one thing I have is maintaining this little circle of sanctity that's my own", she says. "She did it because that was what she grew up with". She signs up for her mother's pageant to make a point that size doesn't matter, the protest spirals when other plus size girls follow suite.
Instead of holding on to that hurt, Jen chose to "use what I grew up with as an example of what I do not want to be or live in".
Part of that may well stem from Aniston's hard relationship with her late mother, Nancy Dow, from whom she was estranged for years. "I literally couldn't have a squeak come out, and then when we finished, I remembered, I just burst into tears", Aniston recently said.
Asked if she got involved with keeping it on the streaming service, she replied: "I didn't".
"What quantifies happiness in someone's life isn't the ideal that was created in the '50s", she added. While the film mirrors Jen's tense relationship with her mother, it's also a reflection of the strong friendships she fashioned for herself in adulthood. "But I feel like something has got to give". "It's such a shallow lens that people look through".
"It's a very storybook idea", Aniston concluded of the traditional "happily ever after" fantasy of marriage and kids. "Even enviable. But everybody's path is different".
