Until now, over 160 patients have been treated with investigational therapeutics under an ethical framework developed by the World Health Organization, in consultation with experts in the field and the DRC, called the Monitored Emergency Use of Unregistered and Investigational Interventions (MEURI), the release said. "But the problem is, working in such an unstable area, you have to assure to safety of the vaccinators, and you have to be able to trace potential contacts, and get them vaccinated".
The outbreak is the tenth in DRC since Ebola was first detected there in 1976. "We will not rest until this outbreak is finished".
People are seeking help in makeshift clinics, some of which are just rooms in people's houses which don't have running water and reuse needles.
A separate statement in the New England Journal of Medicine said: "Given the worsening of the outbreak, we believe it's essential that these security concerns be addressed and that CDC staff return to the field".
Experts realised the way the disease was spreading had changed in October, when unprecedented numbers of children started becoming infected.

'We must continue to pursue a very dynamic response that requires permanent readjustments and real ownership at the community level'.
The security situation in the region has at times limited the response efforts. More than 26,000 people in the DRC have been inoculated in a "ring vaccination" policy in which those who have been in contact with an Ebola patient are vaccinated. Congo's health ministry has carried vivid accounts of residents, spurred by rumours, who have been trying to stop safe burial practices that halt the spread of Ebola from victims to relatives and friends.
The number of Ebola cases announced Thursday surpassed those of the 2000 Ebola outbreak in Uganda, making it second only to the 2014-2016 outbreak in multiple West African nations that killed 11,325 people, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The combination of rebel violence and pre-election unrest is creating a "perfect storm" for an even worse epidemic, he said.
