Jolie has amassed an impressive number of powerful performances in her career, some of which required her to convey edgier characters than other actresses might be willing to.
Interviewed on BBC Radio's Today programme, which she guest edited, Jolie said the campaign had made a difference. She told presenter Justin Webb she "can take a lot on the chin".
"If you asked me 20 years ago, I would have laughed".
After 11 years of serving as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie was appointed Special Envoy in 2012, having become an influential advocate on refugee and displacement matters.
