The company said it had provided information to Japanese prosecutors and would propose to the board of directors that it "promptly remove Ghosn from his positions" along with Kelly.
The Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office declined to comment.

Shares in Renault SA of France plunged 14 percent early Monday. Ghosn gave up his role as chief executive officer of Nissan last year and has said that he may step down as CEO of Renault before his four-year term ends in 2022, fueling speculation the alliance could lose its architect and main leader for the past two decades.
Mr Ghosn is chairman of the Renault-Nissan alliance as well as chief executive of Renault.
Brazilian-born, of Lebanese descent and a French citizen, Ghosn began his career at Michelin in France, moving on to Renault. Since 1999 Nissan has been part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. In 2016, Ghosn became Mitsubishi Motors' chairman. Ghosn remained in that post till previous year. "We will continue our work to identify our governance and compliance issues, and to take appropriate measures", the company said in a statement. But plans for an orderly succession - and potentially the entire future of the rather unwieldy Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi structure - may well have been thrown wide open.
In June, Renault shareholders approved Ghosn's 7.4 million euro ($8.45 million) compensation for 2017. In addition to this, he received €9.2 million in his final year as Nissan chief executive.
