However, Lu Kang told reporters that it would be "natural" for Chinese consular officials to contact the wife of Meng Hongwei, who vanished after traveling to China late last month from France, where Interpol is headquartered.
On Sunday, authorities said Meng was in the custody of the National Supervisory Commission (NSC), China's new super agency charged with investigating graft throughout the government, which is overseeing his case. Many don't have a chance to speak up even if they want to: spouses of officials under investigation, if they're in China, would likely be placed under 24-hour surveillance, Lam said.
Under President Xi Jinping, China has been engaged in a sweeping crackdown on official corruption.
Mr Meng was first reported missing in late September after travelling from INTERPOL HQÂ France to China.
The Ministry said the investigation into Meng was "correct, wise and shows the determination of [President Xi]'s administration to continue its anti-corruption drive".
Interpol acknowledged its embarrassment yesterday over China's arrest without warning of the police agency's president, Meng Hongwei, on corruption charges.
But the government's announcement did little to address concerns raised about the risks of appointing Chinese officials to leadership posts in global organizations.
But China's beleaguered rights activists point out that as someone with a seat atop the country's powerful public security apparatus, Meng has helped build the opaque system of largely unchecked power wielded by the ruling Communist Party to which he's now fallen victim. After that China was very unhappy with Mr Meng. Kim Jong-yang of South Korea, a senior vice-president, has been appointed acting president.
"I find it regrettable that the top leader of the organization had to go out this way and that we weren't specifically notified of what was happening in advance", Kim told the AP.
"We still don't have sufficient information about what's happening [with Meng] or whether it has anything to do with Chinese domestic politics", he added.

Questions about Meng's case dominated a regular briefing by China's foreign ministry on Monday.
Beijing had hosted in September 2017, the annual general meeting of Interpol, in front of which the chinese president had spoken a solemn discourse.
But if corruption was the reason, then it seems reasonable to ask why the Chinese government didn't handle the whole issue through Interpol, as it has done with thousands of other cases.
Speaking in Lyon, the southeast French city where the global police organisation is based, she said the last social media message she received from her husband came on September 25, depicting a single knife emoji.
"As his wife, I think he's simply incapable of this", she said. "For the husband whom I deeply love, for my young children, for the people of my motherland, for all the wives and children, so that their husbands and fathers will no longer disappear".
Chinese authorities say they are investigating the former president of Interpol for bribery and other crimes and indicate that political transgressions may have also landed him in trouble.
It indicated that Meng, a member of the Communist Party, may have somehow been tainted by the former security chief and ex-Politburo Standing Committee member Zhou Yongkang who is now serving a life sentence for corruption.
"The perseverance is constant, the corruption is determined, the anti-corruption is firmly adhered to, Zhou Yongkang's poisonous influence is resolutely thoroughly eliminated, and.clean government is continuously promoted", it says.
In addition to his position at Interpol, Mr. Meng was a vice minister of public security, and he appeared to win promotion as a steady hand managing China's growing worldwide policing interests and priorities.
Chinese authorities scrambled to contain a public relations mess over the disappearance of the former Interpol president during his trip home to China, saying Monday that he was being lawfully investigated for bribery and other crimes.
