The FBI also talked to two other friends of Kavanaugh's who were listed as attending a gathering during the same summer that Ford alleged she was assaulted: Chris Garrett, who went out with Ford for a time, and Tim Gaudette.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell set up a procedural vote for Kavanaugh's nomination on Wednesday night, hours before the senate is expected to review the FBI's supplemental background review on the judge.
The FBI report is confidential, and senators will be allowed to read it in a special secure room in the Capitol. The Senate judiciary committee chair, Chuck Grassley, is first, followed by his colleagues either individually or possibly in groups. Just one physical copy of the report will be available, and only to senators and 10 committee staffers cleared to view the material. With Republicans clinging to a razor-thin 51-49 majority and five senators - including three Republicans - still vacillating, the conservative jurist's prospects of Senate confirmation remained murky and highly dependent on the file's contents, which are supposed to be kept secret.
Kavanaugh has categorically denied all charges.
The reopened FBI investigation was prompted by reservations expressed last by Sen.
Earlier on Tuesday Mr Trump told reporters it was a "very scary time for young men in America when you can be guilty of something that you may not be guilty of". A few clues emerged Wednesday night.
But Trump spent much of the rally lamenting the treatment of Kavanaugh by Democrats, whose attacks, he said, had taken their toll on the judge's family. He is a fine man and great intellect. "The country is with him all the way!"
Blasey Ford's lawyers have criticised the limited scope of the re-opened investigation.Читайте также: Microsoft brings Android mirroring on Windows 10 via Your Phone app
Flake has previously said that his vote depends on the results of the FBI's investigation and has declined to speculate on whether he would be comfortable voting on Kavanaugh if the probe is not yet completed.
"We are profoundly disappointed that after the tremendous sacrifice she made in coming forward, those directing the FBI investigation were not interested in seeking the truth", Ford's counsel said.
After the president taunted Christine Blasey Ford at a campaign rally in MS on Tuesday night they decried his behaviour as "appalling" and "plain wrong", but stopped short of saying that it would influence their vote.
Later on Wednesday, moderate Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski joined in the criticism, saying Mr Trump's speech was "wholly inappropriate" and "unacceptable". "I just say it's kind of appalling", Mr Flake said.
Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, who are seen as swing votes on the Kavanaugh nomination, also rebuked Trump.
Agents were also apparently willing to let the statements made under the penalty of perjury by Ford and Kavanaugh to the committee to stand without further questioning. Several high school and college classmates have come forward to challenge his characterisation of his teenage years and his drinking habits.
She testified that Judge Kavanaugh held his hand over her mouth to prevent her shouts from being heard, and attempted to rape her at the party in the summer of 1982.
"His willingness to lie to avoid embarrassment throws doubt on his denials about the larger questions of sexual assault", Roche wrote, adding that he would be willing to speak to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
