A 29-year-old surfer, Fabrizio Stabile, who recently visited a Waco, Texas, resort has died from what is commonly referred to as a "brain-eating amoeba".
Stabile returned to New Jersey and began suffering from a headache on September 16, according to the family's GoFundMe page.

The BSR Surf Resort in Waco voluntarily closed its wave pool for CDC testing after a surfer who visited the pool died from Naegleria fowleri, which is also known as a "brain-eating amoeba". A small CDC team collected samples for Naegleria fowleri testing and will be working with the health department on recommendations to provide the facility on how to reduce potential exposures.
The water park has been temporarily closed pending an investigation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
