Music megastar Taylor Swift broke her long silence on politics and encouraged her more than 112 million followers on the platform to register to vote in a surprise Instagram post on Sunday that slammed a Tennessee Republican running for Senate.
Bredesen is thankful for Swift's support, writing in a tweet over the weekend, "Thank you for the kind words, [Taylor Swift]".
She also acknowledged her past reluctance to address political issues but said that had changed in the past two years.
Swift said the congresswoman "voted against equal pay for women".
After 24-hours and almost two million Instagram likes later, Vote.org said Tennessee voter registration jumped 65,000 in a day.
"Vote.org saw [Tennessee] registrations spike specifically since Taylor's post", Guthrie told the site. "Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me", the 28-year-old said.
Swift's reach is massive, she has nearly 30 million more Twitter followers than President Donald Trump and has acquired a loyal fan base since her first album released 12 year ago.

Eagles Make Trade Call To Bills On LeSean McCoy
The season, and possibility the entire tenure with the Eagles, is now over for Ajayi, who is in the past year of his contract. Thirty-five year old Darren Sproles figured prominently in the opener, but hasn't played since due to a hamstring injury.
Swift, 28, has notably stayed out of the U.S. political fray in contrast to her more vocal peers, like Democrat supporters Katy Perry and Beyonce, and Donald Trump backer Kanye West, who is scheduled to sit down with the President on Thursday. "Last day to register to vote is October 9".
Swift also blasted Rep. Marsha Blackburn, Bredesen's Republican opponent, for having voted against those values.
Swift wrote that the Tennessee Republican's voting record "appalls and terrifies" her, noting that Blackburn opposes reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act and supports businesses that decline to serve gay couples due to their religious views. For context, the site typically sees an average of 14,078 visitors this year.
The 10-time-Grammy-winning singer's comments drew praise on the left and derision on the right, including from former Arizona governor Mike Huckabee, who said the move would not make a difference to the election's outcome "unless we allow 13-year-olds to vote".
The singer's intervention was not well received by the country's top Republican, U.S. President Donald Trump. She will perform "I Did Something Bad" from her multi-platinum album, "reputation". "And let's say that I like Taylor's music about 25 percent less now, OK?" Candidates seeking to take maximum advantage of what is a quantifiable increase of interest among young voters in the final weeks of the campaign would be wise to follow Swift's framework.
"On Facebook, I have seen my friends say, "I am never buying another Taylor Swift album" to 'I just went online and bought her entire catalog, "' Keel said.
