The tyres of a Dubai-bound Air India Express plane with 130 passengers onboard hit the compound wall of the Trichy worldwide airport while the aircraft was taking off from here around 1.20 am on Friday, damaging an ILS (instrument landing system) antenna and a small portion of the west side wall. The plane had 130 passengers and six crew members on board.
An internal inquiry has been ordered and co-pilot has been de-rostered until the investigation is done.
Air India is India's national carrier.
The aircraft has sustained some damage. The pilot however continued to operate the aeroplane saying the systems were operatinf normally. It added that all passengers landed safely in Mumbai, and that another aircraft was arranged to take them to Dubai. It must be noted that the AI Express informed Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) about the incident.
All 136 passengers and crew aboard the Boeing 737 landed safely at another airport and were put on another flight to Dubai, officials said.
