After weeks of hammering Amazon for its treatment of its warehouse workers, U.S. Sen.
Today, the online retail giant is increasing the minimum salary to $15 per hour for all USA employees, including part-time and full-time employees.
Amazon said the change would affect more than 250,000 full- and part-time employees plus more than 100,000 seasonal staff members who work for Amazon over the holiday season.
Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos says, "We're excited about this change and encourage our competitors and other large employers to join us".
The federal minimum wage for the U.S.is now $7.25, though most states have higher minimums.

The last hiring figures from the U.S. Commerce Department showed that in August, the pace of hiring rose again and wages grew at their fastest pace in nine years.
The new wage, which is higher than the Living Wage Foundation's suggested rates, will come into place next month, just as Amazon ramps up recruitment for its busy Black Friday and Christmas trading period. According to Amazon's most recent year-end report, the company employed 566,000 employees, not counting employees at subsidiary companies.
"While this is a step forward, it is a long way from where Amazon needs to be", said UNI Global Union, which represents retail employees. The pay of workers already making $15 an hour in its warehouses and customer service operations will increase as well, Amazon said. Workers outside of London will receive £9.50 an hour, up from £8 an hour.
Last fall Target committed to giving its employees $15 per hour by the end of 2020.
The increase comes a day after the United Kingdom chancellor, Philip Hammond, promised Britain would press ahead with a new digital tax on internet companies. The company would not state what the federal minimum wage should be, saying Congress should decide that number.
