Adding to the picture of Saudi influence potentially weighing on American decision-making about Khashoggi, US media reported that US$100 million for Washington's stabilisation efforts in Syria was deposited by the kingdom as Pompeo arrived in Riyadh.
A team of 15 Saudi agents, some with ties to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was waiting for Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate the moment he arrived, at about 1:15 p.m. on October 2.
"The [Washington] Post held off publishing it because we hoped Jamal would come back to us so that he and I could edit it together".
In a sorrowful note atop the column, Khashoggi's editor explained why the Post chose to publish the column Wednesday, almost three weeks after his disappearance.
In it, Mr Khashoggi - who went into self-imposed exile past year after reportedly being warned by Saudi officials to stop criticising the crown prince's policies - presented a strong criticism of the state of press freedom in the Arab world, which, he claimed, leaves its people "either uninformed or misinformed".
Khashoggi entered the Saudi mission to obtain the required paperwork for marrying his fiancée, who claims she waited outside the consulate for 11 hours but did not see him come out.
Turkey's National Intelligence Organization says it is in possession of secret audio recordings that incriminate Otaibi and other Saudi officials in the case.
In a still image from surveillance camera footage taken Oct. 2, 2018, and published Thursday, Oct. 18, 2019, by the pro-government Turkish newspaper Sabah, a man previously seen with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's entourage during an April trip to the US walks at Ataturk Airport in Isanbul.
Pompeo said the Saudis had committed to holding accountable "anyone connected to any wrongdoing that may be found", making no exceptions for anyone, including members of the royal family. Sultan Khashoggi, speaking on behalf of the Khashoggi family, also rejected a statement being attributed to them earlier, which calls for an "independent and impartial worldwide commission to inquire" Khashoggi's case.Читайте также: Major League Baseball investigates suspected Astros cheating in ALCS Game 1
Middle East experts said the timing of the transfer likely sent a clear message to the Trump administration.
Turkish officials said the audio recording had been handed over to the United States and Saudi Arabia.
"Now I have to accept: That is not going to happen".
"We don't know if it exists yet". Otaibi left Turkey on Tuesday afternoon, Turkish state media reported.
The letter cited decades of business deals and asked Trump to provide information regarding recent and future financial ties to Saudi Arabia. "As a result, Arab governments have been given free rein to continue silencing the media at an increasing rate", he wrote.
"I'm not giving cover at all".
And a New York Times report says three of the suspects in the alleged Saudi "hit squad" served as part of the Crown Prince's security team.
"We encourage Turkish-Saudi collaboration and look forward to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia conducting a thorough, credible, transparent, and prompt investigation, as announced".При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
